Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
