LeBron James's Historic Point-Scoring Run Concludes, However Lakers Secure Triumph Against Toronto.

James understood his historic streak of reaching double digits was threatened. At the decisive instant, though, it didn't concern him.

The correct basketball play meant distributing the rock – and he executed. Consequently, the unprecedented record was over.

James's unprecedented streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season games with 10+ points was snapped during a recent game, as the NBA's all-time scoring leader was limited to eight total points in the Lakers' 123-120 triumph versus Toronto. He provided the clutch helper, feeding Rui Hachimura to knock down a three-point shot to win the game.

“Nothing,” James replied in response about the streak ending. “The important thing is we won.”

A Selfless Decision Secures Victory

James could have tried to secure the contest – while also extending the streak – with the last shot, but he chose to pass to his teammate in the left corner. Rui connected, with LeBron celebrated immediately.

You have to play the game correctly. You always make the smart play,” James remarked. That is how I operate. That is the way I was taught the game. I’ve done that for two decades.”

James is very conscious of how many points he has during a game,” said the team's head coach JJ Redick. He acted just as he has countless times.”

The Record's End Game

LeBron checked back into the game one last time with just over five minutes left, the win and his personal record up for grabs. At that stage, he had a mere six points from 3-of-15 shooting then.

He got a bucket at 1:46 left to level the contest then missed a 14-footer at 1:01 left that would have pushed him to double digits.

He passed up one more attempt – even though he had a chance. Austin Reaves found him in the waning seconds, but James chose to dish it off instead.

The spirits of the game, when you play it the proper way, they often repay you,” Redick stated.

A Look Back at a Staggering Streak

This incredible run started back in January 2007. It was easily the most extended such streak the league has ever seen: Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem had 787 such games, and Karl Malone was fourth on the list at 575.

He is such a pass-first superstar,” said Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing the sport. He could have shot but due to his nature as a player and just who he is off the court, he chose the unselfish play, dished to Hachimura and we won the game.”

Reaching double digits was usually an afterthought early in the start of fourth quarters. Throughout his run, he had attained the 10-point mark entering the fourth on the vast majority of occasions coming into the contest.

But two such games below ten points through three quarters took place just days before: He had nine entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, followed by six points before the fourth quarter against Phoenix earlier in the week.

LeBron was able to preserve the record in the Phoenix game. One game later, it finished – yet he was celebrating regardless.

I only ever make the correct play. That’s automatic, win, lose or draw,” James declared. When you make the smart play, the basketball gods are always giving back to me.”
