Power facilities targeted in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have come under escalating strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's aerial assaults have resulted in electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while local people in the city's east were plunged into darkness and dealt with disruption to water systems, according to city officials.

Meanwhile, a minor was fatally injured in a different aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, according to area administrators.

Russian forces has increased assaults on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has demanded "concrete actions" from international partners to apply pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the United States, the EU and the major economies - in delivering protection systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 missiles targeted energy facilities, characterizing such assaults as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as the weather cools.

The energy minister said Russia was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were laboring to restore power.

A wave of strikes hit energy infrastructure and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Multiple people hurt in the attacks on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from city authorities.

Local officials said the urban area experienced intense attacks throughout the evening. A seven-year-old child was killed and three other people were wounded.

The attacks come after periods of bombing campaigns in the area, parts of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

The entire country is on alert for hypersonic Kinzhal missile strikes, which are harder to detect.

National leaders told the media that Russia was purposely seeking to demolish the national power system, with attacks already disrupting energy systems.

Officials stated utility staff and officials were bracing for further attacks.
