The Oscars ceremony are set to start streaming exclusively on YouTube in the year 2029, signaling the newest significant shift in Hollywood.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences declared the decision on this week, confirming that it signed a multi-year deal granting YouTube the sole worldwide broadcasting rights to the Oscars through 2033.
The awards show, set for 15 March, has been broadcast for a half a century on ABC. Commencing in 2029, the event will be available as a free live stream on YouTube.
This is another major shakeup in Hollywood, which is dealing with studio sales and mergers, along with severe production cuts.
"Our Academy represents an worldwide body, and this collaboration will allow us to expand access to the activities of the Academy to the biggest global viewership possible - which will be advantageous for our film artists and the movie industry," stated Academy leadership in a release.

The broadcast network, which has streamed the awards since 1976, stated that it was excited "to hosting the event three more times" it will retain rights for.
