The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
