Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
