UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
